Advantages of CNC Vertical Machining Centers

The vertical machining center features a spindle arranged perpendicular to the worktable. It integrates the characteristics and functions of various CNC machine tools. Developed from the basic CNC milling machine, it also shares the features and capabilities of CNC milling machines with a similar structure and comparable machining processes. What distinguishes a vertical machining center from a CNC milling machine is that the machining center is equipped with an automatic tool changer and a tool magazine, functions that a CNC milling machine lacks. A vertical machining center can perform multiple operations such as milling, boring, drilling, tapping, and thread cutting in a single workpiece clamping. Moreover, a vertical machining center can achieve three-axis two-linkage motion; typically, it can realize three-axis three-linkage motion, and some models can perform five-axis and even six-axis control. The more control axes, the wider the machining range. So, do you know what advantages a CNC vertical machining center offers? Next, the editor from the CNC machining factory will briefly introduce them to you.

The advantages of a vertical machining center mainly include the following four points:

1. Because the structure of a vertical machining center is simple and straightforward, workpiece clamping is very easy. Common fixtures can be used, such as precision vises, clamping plates, indexing heads, rotary tables, and other fixtures to clamp the workpiece, making workpiece positioning and repeat positioning very convenient.

2. The structure of a vertical machining center facilitates cooling. Since coolant is sprayed from top to bottom, it can directly reach the hot workpiece and cutting tool during machining.

3. With its relatively simple structure, the vertical machining center provides an extensive field of view, allowing the operator to observe the tool path, easily debug, observe, and modify parameters, conveniently measure the workpiece, and immediately stop the machine to address and correct any problems when detected.

4. When machining flat workpieces, chip evacuation is easy; the chips produced are washed away by the sprayed coolant, preventing residual chips from scratching the workpiece surface during the cutting process.

5. Compared with horizontal machining centers, the vertical machining center has a simpler structure, occupies less floor space, and is less expensive.
